You can talk to ChatGPT on Nothing’s new £99 yellow earbuds

You can assign ChatGPT to a pinch and hold of one of the stems of an earbud, and then talk to the chatbot like you would talk to Siri or Google Assistant. Nothing says you can have a back and forth conversation until you pinch the earbud stem again and end the chat.

The company also added ChatGPT widgets for the home screen, a clipboard shortcut to send text to ChatGPT, and the ability to send screenshots directly to ChatGPT for processing.

Talking directly to ChatGPT using Nothing earbuds will initially only work with a pair of either the new Ear or Ear (a) paired to a Nothing Phone (2) that came out last year. You’ll also need to be signed in to the ChatGPT app on your Phone (2). The Phone (1) and recently released Phone (2a) will be compatible in late April.

Consumer tech companies across the world are adding AI to their products in an attempt to differentiate and also in a familiar case of bandwagon jumping. It remains to be seen if artificial intelligence will become more useful than asking it to write you a cover letter or create a haunted image of something weird, but it seems Nothing is getting on board with the AI hype.

“By integrating ChatGPT with Nothing earbuds, including the new Nothing Ear and Ear (a), and with Nothing OS, we’ve taken our first steps towards change, and there’s more to come,” said Carl Pei, CEO and co-founder of Nothing. “As always, we look forward to feedback from our community.”
