A woman who had sex outside a shopping centre with a broken wine bottle stuffed in her bra has been jailed. Rachel Hardy-Gent was naked from the waist down and had her breasts exposed when a delivery driver spotted her having sex in Whitley Bay.

Hardy-Gent, from Slatyford, Newcastle upon Tyne, pleaded guilty to outraging public decency, possession of an offensive weapon and breaching a suspended sentence. She was jailed for 16 weeks at North Tyneside Magistrates’ Court.

The court heard how Hardy-Gent was in full view of the public outside Park View Shopping Centre, the Newcastle Chronicle reports.

Prosecutors said she was arrested by police and later found to have the jagged neck from a broken wine bottle tucked in her bra.

James Long, prosecuting, said the delivery driver was driving down a goods entrance at the shopping centre when he saw Hardy-Gent and a male.

He added: “They were lying on the floor having sex. This defendant is said to be naked from the waist down. She also had her chest exposed. The male in question had his trousers and underwear pulled down, clearly having sex.”

The court also heard Hardy-Gent, who already had 58 offences on her record, wanted to be sent to prison.

Mark Styles, defending, said his client had drunk so much alcohol she blacked out and has no idea how she ended up outside the shopping centre.

He said she had the glass bottle for her own protection, but had no intention of using it. Mr Styles said she wanted help for her alcohol misuse and housing matters.

He added: “It’s an upsetting application for me to make to ask that she’s sent to prison but that’s what she wants and she’s an adult, so perhaps she knows what is best for her.

“Alcohol is her demon as it’s used to mask the impact of various things that have happened to her over the years. She wants the help prison can offer.”
