Urgent appeal issued after British doctor disappears in iconic Spanish holiday hotspot | World | News
A fresh appeal has been launched to help in the search for a British doctor who disappeared in southern Spain two months ago. Ruaridh (“Rory”) Tanner, in his 30s and originally from Harrow, London, was last seen on October 7 in Nerja, located east of Málaga, the most populous city on the Costa del Sol.
Mr Tanner has brown hair and two distinctive tattoos, a caduceus staff on the back of his left arm and a dog on his left calf. Other identifying details, however, differ between missing persons organisations. SOS Desaparecidos lists Tanner as 37 years old and approximately 6 feet 1 inch tall, while Erican Rescate describes him as 33 years old and around 5 feet 9 inches tall. Mr Tanner is believed to have disappeared along with his car, a silver Volkswagen Polo with registration number LN64 XDT.
His brother, Rufus, who has taken to social media multiple times to issue appeals, believes his brother may have travelled to Valencia and could be living in his car.
In a Facebook post, he wrote: “As his family, we want to know that he is safe, tell him that we love him, and ask him to contact us. Thank you so much for your help”.
Spanish authorities have now widened the search beyond the southern European country and have issued international alerts, warning that Mr Tanner may have travelled back to the UK.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the emergency number 112, the Guardia Civil on 061, the National Police on 091, SOS Desaparecidos on +34 868 286 726, or Erican Rescate ONG on +34 607 118 375.
Nerja is a popular traditional Spanish resort town on the Costa del Sol, famous for its stunning Balcón de Europa viewpoint, beaches like Burriana and the impressive Cueva de Nerja caves. It boasts around 300 days of sunshine annually, with mild winters that make it an ideal destination for year-round visits.
Located on the eastern Costa del Sol, about a 44-mile drive from Málaga Airport (AGP), it serves as a great base for exploring the wider Andalusian region, with the city of Málaga, Granada and Ronda all within driving distance.
This appeal comes just weeks after a body believed to be that of a missing British woman was found hidden under vegetation by a motorway in southern Spain. A massive air and land search was launched for 73-year-old Geraldine Ann after she vanished from her home in Chirivel near Granada on September 17.
