With winter 2024 set to bring colder temperatures and forecasts of a seven-day snow blitz across the UK, it’s no surprise that 74 per cent of Brits are planning trips to escape the winter frost.

LA Travel has set out to find the ultimate winter sun destinations, by comparing the daily sunshine hours in 20 popular locations.

The team found Tanzania as the ultimate winter sun hotspot, offering 12.06 hours of sunshine per day, 8.53 hours more than London.

Adding to its appeal, Zanzibar, a stunning island off Tanzania’s coast, is rapidly becoming a top destination for UK travellers in 2024.

Malé, in the Maldives, ranks second, offering 11.88 hours of winter sunshine per day, 16 percent more than popular spots like Marrakech (6.53) and 8.35 more hours than London.

With its clear waters, white beaches, and cultural experiences, Malé is ideal for sun seekers and adventure lovers.

The Maldives is becoming an increasingly affordable destination. Budget-friendly islands and cheap flights are making it more accessible than ever, with deals offering travellers savings for those looking to escape the cold without breaking the bank.

Cape Town, South Africa is ranked third, offering an impressive 11.47 hours of winter sunshine daily.

This means an additional 7.94 hours of sun compared to London and almost 12 percent more than that in Miami.

Known for its stunning beaches and iconic Table Mountain, Cape Town is a perfect escape from winter. The city also offers a thriving cultural scene, world-class dining and nearby Cape Winelands, making it a must-visit for travellers.
