Ultimate fashion icons revealed – from Princess Diana’s dress to crop
It’s the fashion statement that really has stood the test of time.
But while Princess Diana’s off-the-shoulder “Revenge Dress” still resonates with 54% of women today, new research shows our idea of what makes a fashion classic is evolving.
The Enduring Icons index, commissioned by Dove, highlights the looks women believe have lasting power, with Diana leading the way even decades on.
Other favourites include the little black dress, with 66% of women saying it will never go out of fashion. Denim jackets (45%) and crisp white shirts (39%) also rank highly, alongside staples such as leather biker jackets, tailored blazers and knee-high leather boots, each chosen by around a third.
The research also revealed a generational divide, with Gen Z’s preference for low-rise denim and crop tops – harking back to nineties nostalgia – contrasting with older women’s love of pearls and more formal styles.
Inspired by the idea of lasting design, Dove’s new refillable antiperspirant has been created as an enduring everyday essential.
Jenny Blanco Barcia, marketing manager for Dove said:“True icons are defined by their ability to stand the test of time – but today, that’s as much about design and desirability as it is longevity.
“Whether it’s a classic wardrobe staple or an everyday essential, women are increasingly drawn to items that feel considered, elevated and worth holding onto.
“The Enduring Icons Index highlights this shift and the inspiration behind Dove’s first refillable antiperspirant – designed as a modern everyday icon that is made to be kept, refilled and used again and again.”
Each refill combines beautifully designed cases in stylish colours, delivering up to 72-hour sweat and odour defence, plus more than 50% skincare ingredients and fine fragrance-inspired scents.
