UK’s ‘best’ seaside town with the most beautiful harbour – ‘just like Malibu’ | World | News
Recent years have seen a surge of Brits seeking the sun amongst the beauty on their doorstep rather than jetting off abroad.
A recent study by Haven Holidays explores the UK’s best seaside towns, and two Cornish locations place in the top 3.
Taking the top spot is St Ives in Cornwall, home to stunning beaches, clear waters and a beautiful harbour.
This has led it to be compared to the Californian coastal city of Malibu.
Perhaps the most scenic spot in the town is Porthmeor beach, which is famous for its golden sands and great surf.
The town itself isn’t just a site of stunning beauty, there is also lots to do, including museums and art galleries.
Head to the Tate St Ives to explore some of the town’s artistic culture, where it celebrates both contemporary art and the legacy of artists.
There is also an annual festival for the arts, showcasing local talent with exhibitions, live music and theatre performances.
This isn’t the first recent list for the picturesque town to top, with it also crowning first place in the rankings of happiest place to live in Britain.
It scored highly on people’s sense of belonging when living in the town, and its access to green spaces.
Second on the list is Robin Hood’s Bay in North Yorkshire, home to picturesque streets that wind through a historic town.
In third place is Cornwall’s Padstow, which a hub for marine life and natural beauty.
Simon Palethorpe, CEO at Haven, says the outcome of the survey “goes to prove you don’t need to go far from home to get picture postcard views and scenery”.
He adds: “There’s nothing better than starting and ending your day with a sunrise and sunset view over the sea – even more so when it’s on home soil.
“Brits are still so surprised by the breathtaking coastline we have in the UK.”
