‘UK’s best seaside town’ with pretty beach just 25 minutes from city | Travel News | Travel

Believe it or not, just 25 minutes away from this pretty beach is one of the UK’s most exciting cities. Long Sands Beach is just a short drive away from Newcastle, a city with a thriving nightlife, food scene and friendly atmosphere. Tynemouth, Tyne & Wear has been named by Rough Guides as the number one best seaside town in the UK and it’s hardly surprising to see it top the list.

It says: “Of its beaches, surf-hub Longsands gets most of the accolades. But clamber down the stairs from the clifftop to King Edward’s Bay, and you’re in for a real treat. This is where Geordie foodies flock, in fine weather or otherwise, to enjoy superb seafood and real ales at Riley’s Fish Shack, a simple hut-kitchen that is the beach’s lone structure.”

The beach is a mile long stretch of golden sands that attracts people from across the region.

It has achieved a Blue Flag award making it a popular spot for many different reasons and it’s a favourite for many all-year round.

When the sun is out, it’s the perfect place to enjoy a break if you also want to be close to a city for some variety.

On Tripadvisor, one reviewer said of Long Sands Beach: “On a hot summer’s day tynemouth is unbeatable. A day on the beach eating fish and chips is every English person’s idea of a good day out and Longsands doesn’t disappoint. If you’re not from the area you must visit!”

Newcastle itself is home to historic Georgian architecture and it’s a hub for shopping, from the independent stores and quirky shops of Grainger Town.

If you’re planning to visit, you can’t miss a visit to the quayside. You’ll be able to walk along the river popping into a range of lively pubs.

In summer, there’s a range of outdoor bars which are perfect for enjoying warmer weather.

While you’re there, you’ll also be able to enjoy seeing the famous bridges while strolling along.

If you’re looking for somewhere to visit this summer, staying in Newcastle and visiting Long Sands Beach could be the ideal place to enjoy both the city and the seaside.
