A YouTube channel, that by its own admission “covers the most obscure places in the UK”, is shining the spotlight on a town surrounded by a posh neighbourhood which has become an “embarrassment to the county”. 

Turdtowns, boasting 86.3 thousand subscribers on YouTube, is a channel that highlights different towns and cities across Britain which — as per those running the channel — are not up to the mark.

In a recent video uploaded to the channel, a list of the “six worst towns in Worcestershire” was revealed — with one posh town in an equally upscale region named the absolute worst.

While Worcestershire itself is one of the smaller counties in the country — with just 590,000 people calling it home, making it the 38th most populous county in the UK — what comes as a total surprise is that the town named the worst is actually surrounded by gorgeous, posh Cotswolds villages.

Now, the Cotswolds as we know, are an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the UK and are often considered to be one of the poshest parts of the entire country.

So which town has the YouTube channel up in arms? It’s none other than Evesham.

Located roughly equidistant between Cheltenham, Stratford-upon-Avon, and Worcester — Evesham is a small market town and civil parish with a population of 28,252 in the Wychavon district of Worcestershire, nestled comfortably in the West Midlands of England.

According to Turdtowns, because Evesham is “so southern in this county, it feels more like Gloucestershire”. The anonymous presenter of the channel says: “I am rarely shocked nowadays. This place had the shock factor for all the wrong reasons.”

Delving further into the reasons behind his distress, the Turdtowns presenter says: “This place is only 5 miles from Broadway, one of the poshest, most well-known villages in the Cotswolds. How is Evesham this bad? It’s appalling. Everything around it is posh. Cheltenham’s just down the road, too. This place is an embarrassment to the entire county. What? Did they kick everybody out of the Cotswolds who didn’t get five or more GCSEs and forcibly move them here to Evesham?”

He sarcastically adds: “Evesham truly puts the chav in Wychavon, which is the name of the local district within Worcestershire. Well, that’s pretty unfortunate. I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. A complete embarrassment to this part of the world.”

According to Turdtowns’ YouTube video — Evesham’s biggest problems are the “traffic” and the “shopping”, which the anonymous digital creator claims is the “worst I’ve ever seen in a major town”.

“There is clearly a lot of tourists and footfall in the town, so why has it gone so wrong? I’ve seen lots of bad shopping malls on my trips. Evesham somehow ramped it up and presented me with the biggest pile of rubbish I’ve ever seen. This shopping mall here is centrally located right next to the churches. It has perhaps 35 units inside. 30 of them were empty. Two of them were pointless fake shops which are only there to fill up space.

“I have never seen anything as bad as this. It felt like I’d broken into an abandoned mall to do some urban exploring. This isn’t off the beaten track. It’s right in the town center,” adds the popular YouTuber.

When it comes to traffic, Evesham is apparently struggling. “Evesham looks like a pretty little place. It has some very old listed buildings and three churches, which to be honest just seems a bit greedy. Seems nice and Cotswoldy, right? It is near the Cotswolds and I guess it has that sort of vibe about it. Well, how wrong you’d be, my little friend,” remarks the presenter.

He further adds: “The first major issue is the traffic. I have never been anywhere quite as bad as this. It took an hour just to pass from one side of the town to the other. This is not a big place. God help you if you have to turn across the road. You got no chance. No one’s going to let you out. Evesham is one giant car park. 

“There is a bypass here, but it doesn’t seem to help it one bit. The morons in charge of the town closed off several streets and made others one-way and then put a pedestrian crossing every 50 meters. Couple that with buses, coaches, and people trying to park alongside the narrow streets, and you aren’t getting anywhere quickly. It was a miserable, horrible experience, and living here must be a complete joke.”

According to Turdtowns, “Evesham’s roads feel like one giant car forecourt” and the “traffic alone is enough to earn Evesham a place on this list.”

In the video, the presenter argues: “I know some smartass in the comments will say, “Oh, it’s only bad when I visited because they’re doing road works.” It’s not. There’s plenty of stuff out there online complaining about how bad the traffic is here. This is a known problem.”
