UK restaurant closes after 9 years – ‘extortionate rise in costs’ | UK | News

A UK restaurant, which boasts a 4.7-star rating on Google, is closing after nine years in business. Nest in East London has been described as an “outstanding” restaurant, with delicious food and excellent service. However, despite its success, financial challenges have forced the hotspot to close.

The team announced that it will hold its final service on March 28, welcoming its customers with “warm and heavy hearts”, in a statement issued on social media. They also thanked employees, customers, friends, and suppliers for their journey.

It reads: “After 9 incredible years, we’re sharing the news that Nest will be closing its doors, with our final service on March 28.

“What a journey it’s been. From very humble beginnings running pop-ups around the country, to our first dishevelled shoebox of a site on Morning Lane in Homerton (which we absolutely loved and which gave us the platform to grow), to our current home in Shoreditch & beyond – despite the hardship, we feel incredibly blessed for this time.

“When we first opened, our tasting menu was a measly £28! Since then, the relentless and extortionate rise in costs has made it unavoidable to raise prices in order to keep going. We truly believe our current menu still represents incredible value, but despite every effort, we’re no longer able to make the numbers balance.”

The team also thanked the community for their support “during what is arguably one of the most challenging periods our industry has ever faced”.

Customers were left gutted by the news of the closure. The Instagram announcement garnered over 100 comments, with people “sending love” and sharing their disappointment.

One person wrote: “So sorry for this news, the struggle is real and it’s only getting tougher for operators with food and rent costs”

“Huge congratulations to you and the team for a solid 9 years. It’s a huge achievement and deserves much respect.
The drive and resilience of hospitality operators is immense.”

Another commented: “Really sorry to hear this! Nest has been my favourite restaurant in London since opening. The food always delicious, and the service impeccable and full of warmth. I’ll certainly be back before the doors close. Thanks for being so brilliant”.
