The Simpler Recycling scheme, outlined by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, is being launched to try and end the postcode lottery of bin collections across the country, the Sun reported.

Households will have four different containers, each meant to be used when recycle different materials.

Bin one is for mixed recycling, including glass, cans and hard plastic.

Bin two is for paper and cardboard bin. This only applies to certain councils with the facilities to arrange a separate collection.

Bin three is for food waste, which includes all raw or cooked food and even teabags.

Bin four is fo general waste, in which anything that cannot be recycled can be put as normal.

Fines for incorrect use of recycling bins can range in price, reaching up to £400.

“Citizens will be able to recycle the same materials across England, whether at home, work or school, and will no longer need to check what is accepted for recycling in their local area,” a resentative for the Simpler Recycling scheme said.

“A universal standard will ensure that everything that can be collected for household recycling is collected in every region.”

“Simpler Recycling will also end the ‘postcode lottery’ of bin collections in England, whereby councils collect different materials for recycling, causing confusion for households.”

Items that must be kept out of recycling collections include: glass, metal, plastic, paper and card, food waste and garden waste.

Households in England are advised to check with their local council on new bin rules if they have not already been notified.
