As the weather gets warmer and the days brighter, our attention turns to making the most of the impending Spring sunshine. And what better way to spend a weekend than at the beach, and there’s one that has been hailed as one of the best to visit.

On the island of Tresco, Isles of Scilly in Cornwall, is the beautiful and secluded beach of Pentle Bay. It’s renowned for its crystal-clear turquoise waters that glisten in the sunshine and its pristine sugar-white sand, which can easily resemble that found in the Caribbean.

The shallow, calm waters make it an ideal spot for a dip during the warmer months or for kayaking around the island. Tresco Island is just two and a half miles long and a mile wide, with Pentle Bay making up a small part of the untouched haven, with around half a mile of its curved, sandy shore.

The beach is lined by small dunes and grassland with Agapanthus flowers that bloom in spring and summer, creating a spectacular setting. Visitors can spend time wandering along the pristine shores, admiring the quiet paradise at one of the archipelago’s most beautiful beaches.

Pentle Bay is also a part of a larger Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) area, which also includes several offshore islands, such as Merrick Island and Round Island. These have been known to play a crucial role in the breeding seabird colonies – so it’s a destination well worth visiting if you’re an avid birdwatcher too!

The experts at GO Outdoors have named Pentle Bay as one of the ‘best beaches to visit this Spring’, after analysing data from various UK coasts. The Isles of Scilly beach was ranked in fourth place, thanks to its average Spring temperature of around 10C, monthly rainfall of 59mm, daily sunshine of 7.2 hours and an impressive 4.8 out of 5 ranking on Google reviews.

One traveller dubbed Pentle Bay as “one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever seen”, and couldn’t believe it was nestled in the UK. Another abelled it as a “private gem” and a “mini paradise”, while one visitor said it was a “beautiful beach” with the water an “unreal colour”.

If you’re keen to experience the slice of paradise this Spring, you can catch a boat from Penzance Harbour in Cornwall to Tresco Island. The journey to St Mary’s on Tresco Island takes around two hours and 45 minutes, but during that time you’ll be treated to spectacular coastal views before reaching one of the most picturesque beaches in the UK.

“Sun protection is also important, even in spring. Apply a generous layer of suncream before you head out, and don’t forget a cap and sunglasses to shield yourself from harmful UV rays.”
