UK airports issue ‘closure’ warnings to travellers | Travel News | Travel

A number of UK airports have put out alerts that mean some travellers may have to change their plans. Although the summer season has now wound down, it is still a fairly busy period for international travel, as holidaymakers jet off for a change of scenery, or in the hopes of basking in some warmer weather.

While going on holiday is an exciting time, it can also come with stress as people try to prepare and remember everything. Keeping well-informed is crucial when jetting off, and several airports have sent out updates to passengers this week.

In an alert on X, previously Twitter, Bristol Airport officials announced: “Our Drop & Go car park will be closed October 8 and 9 between 19:00 – 04:00. Please use our Short Stay & Pick up car park. You can find more information on arriving by car and our parking options on our website.”

Elsewhere, there are travel issues impacting other airports. Guidance on Jet2’s website explains: “We have been made aware of road works between Junction 23A and Junction 25 on the M1, one lane will be permanently closed on the Northbound and Southbound carriageways with a 50mph speed restriction in place. Delays are likely during peak hours.

“There will be sporadic closures of Junction 23A slip roads, between the hours of 22:00 and 06:00. There will be signed diversions. Please allow enough time to travel to East Midlands Airport as all Jet2.com flights are due to operate as scheduled.”

Similarly, there are roadworks near Newcastle Airport, as Jet2 explained they’re taking place “on the A696 until the 26th November. Diversion routes have been put in place”. The travel operator’s advice continues: “National Highways have confirmed that resurfacing work will be completed affecting the airport access roundabout.

“These works will take place from approximately 22:00 with the road reopening from 06:00 the following morning. Please allow enough time to travel to Newcastle Airport as all Jet2.com flights are due to operate as scheduled.”
