Two people have been killed in a small plane crash in Chicago and investgators are trying to establish the cause of the crash.
The twin-engine plane crashed at DuPage Airport in West Chicago on Wednesday, December 17, at around 1.50pm.
The two men aboard the plane were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet named the victims.
Officers with the West Chicago Police Department and the West Chicago Fire Protection District atteneded to the incident and about a dozen emergency vehicles were seen around the incident at about 3:30 p.m, the Daily Herald reported.
The Federal Aviation Administration said a Piper PA-30 crashed after departing from the airport near the border of DuPage and Kane counties, the Daily Herald reported.
ABC7 reported that the plane is owned by members of the International Flying Club and that the club said one person aboard the aircraft was a current member, and the other a former member.
An investigation into the exact cause of the crash is underway and airport officials are coordinating with the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board.
Images of the crash showed that the plane sustained significant front-end damage and was in snow-covered area near a runway.
Part of the general aviation airport was open on late Wednesday afternoon.
