Trump warns ‘I am seriously considering ditching NATO’ and brutally mocks the UK | World | News

US President Donald Trump has warned that he is considering pulling the US out of NATO as he launched another verbal attack at the UK. Speaking to The Telegraph, Mr Trump said the alliance is a “paper tiger” as he said removing America from the defence treaty was now “beyond reconsideration”.

Asked if he would reconsider the US’s membership of the alliance after the conflict, Mr Trump told the newspaper: “Oh yes, I would say [it’s] beyond reconsideration. I was never swayed by Nato. I always knew they were a paper tiger, and Putin knows that too, by the way.”

Mr Trump rebuked Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer for refusing to get involved in the US-Israeli war against Iran, and suggested the Royal Navy was not ready. He said: “You don’t even have a navy. You’re too old and had aircraft carriers that didn’t work.”

Asked if the Prime Minister should spend more on defence, Mr Trump said: “I’m not going to tell him what to do. He can do whatever he wants. It doesn’t matter. All Starmer wants is costly windmills that are driving your energy prices through the roof.”

This is not the first Mr Trump launched a verbal attack against NATO. Last month, taking on Truth Social, he said: “Without the U.S.A., NATO IS A PAPER TIGER! They didn’t want to join the fight to stop a Nuclear Powered Iran. Now that fight is Militarily WON, with very little danger for them, they complain about the high oil prices they are forced to pay, but don’t want to help open the Strait of Hormuz, a simple military maneuver that is the single reason for the high oil prices. So easy for them to do, with so little risk. COWARDS, and we will REMEMBER!”

He also previously said he was “unhappy” with how the UK handled the war in Iran and the U.S. request to use UK bases to strike the country. The US President said he was “disappointed” by Starmer over his initial refusal to send aircraft carriers to the Middle East.

He also said: “I just said ‘you don’t have to send me aircraft carriers, send me a couple of minesweepers, we don’t need your aircraft carriers’, but even the aircraft carriers, he would only send them after we essentially won. He’s sending them when there are no planes left, when the missiles are down to 8%.”

At the time, Trump also added: “Unfortunately Keir is no Winston Churchill.” He added: “Well, he hasn’t been supportive, and I think it’s a big mistake. You know, they make a lot of money on trade with the United States. I went out of my way [to make a trade deal]. We made a good deal for them and, frankly, probably wasn’t appreciated.”
