Trump plans 2028 White House run in bid to be US president ‘4EVA’ | World | News

A close ally of Donald Trump says he will be elected President for a third term in 2028, despite current Constitutional limits. Having successfully been elected twice to the White House, the Republican leader is barred from standing again as a Presidential candidate by the 22nd amendment.

However, Steve Bannon claimed Trump’s supporters were working on a plan to allow him to run again for the top job in the US in 2028. The media executive – who served as the White House’s chief strategist in Trump’s first term – told the Economist that there were ways and means of getting around the Constitutional restrictions. “He’s going to get a third term,” he told the British publication during a video interview.

“Trump is going to be president in ‘28 and people ought to just get accommodated with that.”

The only other US politician to serve more than two terms as President was Franklin D. Roosevelt. The Democrat was elected for a third time in 1940 and then for fourth in 1944, but died before he completed his term.

Amid concerns about unlimited Presidential terms, the 22nd amendment was passed in February 1951.

Ask whether the amendment would effectively block any attempt for Trump to run again, Bannon replied: “There’s many different alternatives.

“At the appropriate time we’ll lay out what the plan is, but there is a plan, and Trump will be the president in ‘28.”

He added: “We had longer odds in ’16 and longer odds in ’24 than we’ve got in ’28. We have to finish what we started.”

Bannon’s remarks come amid growing concerns among Democrats about Trump’s increasingly authoritarian tendencies. Nearly seven million people took part in a “No Kings” protest against Trump’s policies across the US last weekend.

The US President took to his Truth Social website to taunt his political opponents about his future White House plans.

In a video clip posted to the site on Sunday, a mock Time magazine cover is shown with the headline, “How Trumpism Outlasts Trump,” which is then zoomed in on to reveal a series of yard signs carrying the future campaign slogans “Trump 2028,” “Trump 2032,” “Trump 2036” and so on, all set to Edvard Grieg’s ominous “In the Hall of the Mountain King.”

The signs roll on to a final one, brandished by the president himself, reading “Trump 2048” that proceeds to tick upwards through the election years, reaching the year 90,000 before revealing the message: “Trump 4EVA.”
