Trump given Masters verdict after surprise Scheffler moment | Golf | Sport

Robert MacIntyre narrowly missed out at the Valero Texas Open on Sunday as the Scot was unable to secure the birdie he needed at the final hole to force a play-off with JJ Spaun, who claimed a one-shot triumph to enter the Masters in fine form.

MacIntyre was required to return to the course on day four to finish the weather-disrupted third round and posted a 72 to enter the final round holding a narrow one-shot advantage.

However, after beginning round four with nine consecutive pars, he found himself chasing and sat three shots behind US Open champion Spaun with two holes remaining.

MacIntyre maintained his challenge with a magnificent eagle on the 17th, but was unable to produce the birdie he required on the last as Spaun claimed the title for the second time.

Alongside Ryder Cup star MacIntyre in a tie for second on 16 under were Englishman Matt Wallace, who posted a final-round 68, and Michael Kim.
