Tottenham transfer news as Thomas Frank seals three deadline day deals | Football | Sport
Tottenham completed two loan deals in the final hours of the January transfer window with one of those a hijack on bitter rivals Arsenal. Spurs have sanctioned several moves in the winter trading period with Conor Gallagher and Souza arriving on a permanent basis while a number of young stars have been loaned out.
Kota Takai, Jamie Donley, Damola Ajayi and Yang Min-hyeok have all been sent elsewhere for the remainder of the season with the latter duo recalled from loans earlier in the window before being sent back out. Brennan Johnson has also moved to Crystal Palace for £35million on a permanent deal.
A further two transfer announcements have since dropped with a loan incoming and exit. Arguably the biggest positive from the last 32 days involves a different team agreeing a lucrative deal.
With all of that being said, the Express have rounded the headlines from a quieter than expected deadline day at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Three deadline day deals sealed
Tottenham beat Arsenal to the deadline day signing of Hearts striker James Wilson. The Gunners made contact for the teenager this past weekend but Spurs hijacked that move by offering a loan with option-to-buy while Arsenal were essentially offering him a trial in their under-21s team before then making a decision on a potential permanent transfer.
A separate loan deal was also finalised during the final 12 hours of the January window with young midfielder George Abbott joining League One outfit Mansfield Town. He made just 11 appearances for Wycombe during the first half of the season with the 20-year-old brought back to north London.
Alfie Dorrington has also sealed a last-minute temporary switch with the defender heading to Salford City after a failed six-month spell at Aberdeen.
Frank gets £60m boost
It could certainly be argued that the best January transfer for Thomas Frank does not even involve Tottenham. Late into Sunday evening, reports emerged that Liverpool had agreed a £60million fee with Rennes for central defender Jeremy Jacquet.
Chelsea appeared as favourites to acquire his services and had been chasing a deal throughout January. However, Arne Slot‘s side have won the race for his signature with the 20-year-old set to join in the summer.
With defensive additions needed, Liverpool have been showing an interest in Micky van de Ven as the potential successor to Virgil van Dijk. Signing Jacquet somewhat reduces their chances and available budget for Van de Ven which is likely to come as good news for Tottenham.
