The search for the perfect NYE movie lineup is over, with IMDB’s ‘100 Best New Year’s Eve Movies of All Time’ list. While the extensive list of reccos has a little bit of everything from different genres across the board, we’re bringing you the absolute best of the best from the list — the Top Five rated New Year’s Eve films to close out 2025.
It’s no surprise that romantic comedies are at the forefront of this collection, because let’s be honest, everyone can do with a little love and laughter at the end of the year.
There is however, one surprise entrant on the list at number four which will give (movie) marathoners a nice little crime-and-killing break — you know, just to spice things up.

5. Bridget Jones’s Diary

At number five on the list is the evergreen British classic Bridget Jones’s Diary. Do we really need to give you a list of reasons to get comfy in your PJ’s and watch this brilliant fiasco of a rom-com, or have you been dying to do it all year long anyway?

4. The Godfather Part II

The shock entry on this list — The Godfather Part II — isn’t usually considered to be a quintessential ‘New Year’s Eve film’ per se, but who are we to question the greatness of Coppola, Pacino, De Niro, Duvall and Keaton?
No one. So we just quietly make our popcorn and settle in for 3 hours and 22 minutes of lighthearted festive murders by cinema’s greatest.

The film’s official plot states: “The compelling sequel to The Godfather, contrasting the life of Corleone father and son. 3. About Time

It’s no surprise this absolute tearjerker of a film has made it to the Top Five. It has all the components to make even the most emotionally stunted person ugly cry. Because what else can you expect when you make a movie with romance, witty banter, friendship, family and some whimsical time travel? Disclaimer: Please keep the tissues within reach.

The movie’s official plot says: “When Tim Lake is 21, his father tells him a secret: The men in their family can travel through time. Although he can’t change history, Tim resolves to improve his life by getting a girlfriend. He meets Mary, falls in love and finally wins her heart via time-travel and a little cunning. However, as his unusual life progresses, Tim finds that his special ability can’t shield him and those he loves from the problems of ordinary life.”
2. New Year’s Eve

Unsurprisingly, New Year’s Eve has made it to the list of films to watch on New Year’s Eve (were you really expecting not to see it on here?) Not only does it introduce a new Hollywood A-lister at every dialogue, it also features the classic cases of NYE chaos and madness that we’ve come to love and adore in spades.

The film’s official plot summary states: “Intertwining stories promise love, hope, forgiveness, second chances and more for a number of New Yorkers on the celebrated night. A rock star and his ex-lover clash at an exclusive party; a singer becomes stranded with a killjoy on the way to a New Year’s gig; a nurse stays with a dying patient as he tries to hang on long enough to see the ball drop in Times Square one last time.”
1. When Harry Met Sally

Coming in hot at number one on the list is When Harry Met Sally. As far as Hollywood’s greatest romantic comedies go, this one always tends to find itself a shiny spot among the rankings, and for good reason. Frankly, who doesn’t love themselves some star-crossed lovers action?
