The pretty Italian seaside town that’s offering holidays for 84p | Travel News | Travel

A seaside town on the Italian island of Sicily is offering holidays for just €1 (84p), but tourists will have to be quick if they want to nab the deal. The town of Siculiana plans to host both couples and families for this low price in a bid to boost the area’s tourism appeal. Siculiana is a small town that many tourists arean’t aware of, even though it has a scenic coastline and a number of attractions such as the castle, old buildings and winding streets.

The offer for couples and families is for a three-day experience in the town. It is open to both Italians and foreighners, including EU citizens and tourists from the UK. But there is a catch when it comes to nabbing the holiday. The contest involves applicants recording a video and explaining why they want to visit the town. In the clip, you can explain what you would do there – whether it be trying the food, visiting the beach or learning about the local culture and history.

The winners will only have to pay €1 (84p) for their accommodation, food and the guided tours that are included in the package. However, they will have to make their own way there as the prize does not include flights.

If you want to try and nab this 84p holiday for yourself, then you will have to be quick. Applications for this contest close tomorrow (March 15).

The full terms and conditions of the competition, including guidelines on how to submit your video, can be found on Siculiana Turistica’s website.

Siculiana mayor Giuseppe Zambito said: “[Siculiana is] outside the usual popular tourism routes, and we hope that the proximity of [the town] to the archaeological site of Agrigento with its Valley of Temples, nominated as Italy’s Culture Capital this year, will lure more tourists over here as well.

“With this free weekend programme we want to test our tourism infrastructure and handling of extra tourists so to become one of Sicily’s key destinations, and not just in summer.”
