If you’re looking for an exciting holiday destination this spring, there’s one place you should add to your list. A city break in Spain is the perfect weekend away, and in one of its most vibrant cities temperatures are set to hit 20C in April. Madrid is known for its beautiful parks, historic museums and its lively culture.
In April, you can catch flights from London to Madrid for as little as £30 with RyanAir. The city is rooted in history, in 1561, King Philip II moved the royal court from Toledo, which was up until that time the capital of Spain, to Madrid. It’s a destination which tourists can’t get enough of with a huge range of things to do and see for visitors.
On a travel blog called Go Far Grow Close, one person wrote: “Madrid is the capital city of Spain and a very underrated city.
“A lot of tourists skip Madrid and head to Barcelona or Malaga but it is one of the best European cities to visit in April.
“There is a lot to see and do including some of the most famous art museums in the world, delicious food options, vibrant nightlife, and a lot of sightseeing hotspots.”
If you’re wondering what you can do in the city, you should visit Parque del Retiro which is an urban park centered around a pretty lake.
Visitors say the park is one of the best in the city – it’s so big that you can spend hours walking around it.
One person who visited on Tripadvisor said: “My favorite place in Madrid. Beautiful park, well cared for, wooded and with a lot to see. The lawns are great for picnics in spring and autumn!”
Another must-do is to see El Rastro flea market which is 400 years old. The market is open every Sunday and on public holidays from 9am to 3pm.
You can visit its open-air stalls which sell a variety of clothes, souvenirs, handicrafts and antiques.
Another thing you can do is visit the Royal Palace of Madrid which is a stunning work of architecture.
One person who visited on Tripadvisor said: “The Royal Palace of Madrid is absolutely breathtaking! The architecture is magnificent, and every room is richly decorated with incredible attention to detail.
“Walking through the palace feels like stepping back in time, surrounded by history and elegance. A must-visit landmark when in Madrid!”
If you’re hoping to enjoy a break away this spring, Madrid is a destination worth considering.
