The most expensive road in Africa with high-end properties reserved ‘for the mega rich’ | World | News

A road in Africa is home to a high number of mansions has been found to be among the richest in all of the continent. Popular TikToker @Cool Story Bru! discussed this African spot which he describes as being “the most insane street that’s reserved for the mega-rich”. Although it’s difficult to definitively pinpoint one single African road as having the most expensive homes across all of the continent, Nettleton Road in Clifton, is often cited as being the number one location for high-end property values.

Clifton, found in Cape Town, South Africa, is, however, well-known for being home to incredibly high average homes and is the most expensive road in South Africa. “Nettleton Road in Clifton is the most expensive street in South Africa that’s perched high up against Lion’s Head with a brilliant view of the city and ocean,” added TikToker Cool Story Bru!

Lion’s Head is a famous mountain that lies between Table Mountain and Signal Hill and is 669 metres above sea level.

The region is highly desirable among property buyers as it’s part of the Table Mountain National Park with its peak forming part of a dramatic backdrop to the city of Cape Town.

He added: “If you want to buy a mansion here, properties start at around R90 million (£3.6 million) and can go up to R160 million (£6.5 million).

“However, it is predicted that properties here will exceed R200 million (£8.1 million).

One property located at 5 Nettleton Road recently came on the market with an asking price of a whopping R160 million (£6.5 million).

According to Lance Real Estate, the property is one of the country’s most exclusive addresses and is an “architectural marvel designed by world-renowned Stefan Antoni, best known for his striking contemporary features”.

Lance Cohen from Lance Real Estate spoke to BusinessTech and explained how the Cape Town property market is currently “experiencing robust growth”.

According to real estate agency SEEFF, roughly 60% of the top end sales of homes in Clifton are to Capetonian buyers with the remainder being mostly holiday and investment homes from Johannesburg and KwaZulu-Natal buyers as well as a large chunk coming from foreign buyers.

Foreigner buyers can legally buy property in Cape Town, South Africa regardless of citizenship as long as they comply with local legislation.

This includes exchange control regulations when transferring these funds, however, they may need to obtain a visa for extended stays in South Africa.

Apart from Nettleton Road in Cape Town, Sandton in Johannesburg is home to the richest square mile in all of Africa.

That’s because Sandton is home to the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) which is Africa’s largest stock market alongside luxury shopping centres and five-star hotels.
