The ‘most beautiful valley’ in England where ‘every visitor’ gives it 5 out of 5 | UK | Travel
A breathtaking valley in England has earned a flawless rating for its stunning views, tranquil walks and moss green landscapes. Newlands Valley in the Lake District, Cumbria, boasts scenic walking routes and spellbinding scenery.
The rolling landscapes of emerald green forestry are so picturesque that they’ve become a source of inspiration for artists and authors throughout time. One of the most famous is Beatrix Potter, who spent 10 summer holidays in the Lake District. The children’s writer and illustrator was so captivated by the scenery that she used it as the setting for The Tales of Mrs Tiggywinkle, including illustrations of local landmarks.
In the midst of the valley, sits a peaceful haven home to a 16th century church. Newlands church has remained unspoilt as a pretty, pearl white building with stained glass windows dedicated to a WW1 soldier.
The churchyard, filled with stone memorials, transforms into a carpet of snowdrops and daffodils in the spring. William Wordsworth visited the church in May 1826 and was so enchanted by the sight of the building as he saw it through the trees while on a walking tour, that he wrote a stanza about it in his poem “To May.”
It’s not only creatives who have been left astounded by the valley’s beauty. Visitors took to Google reviews to leave nothing but five-star ratings. One visitor wrote: “Simply stunning. Well worth visiting.” While another praised the tranquillity, writing: “A beautiful place to enjoy a peaceful walk in the sunshine.” One simply admired: “A lovely area of Cumbria. Fab walks.”
Newlands Valley is just a 15-minute drive from the market town of Keswick. Visitors can get there by driving along the A66, through a village called Braithwaite. Trains from London Euston to Penrith, a station near the scenic valleys, take just under three and a half hours. But, as this beauty spot is so remote, a connecting bus will be required to take you further into the splendid landscapes.
