The ‘mini Stonehenge’ in the north of England located just 30 minutes from pretty city | Travel News | Travel
In the north of England, there’s a beautiful city that’s 30 minutes away from a lesser-known spot similar to Stonehenge. The unique landmark is located in Yorkshire, half an hour from Ripon. And Druids Temple is the perfect place to enjoy an autumn day out.
For many Brits, Stonehenge is located too far away, but you can get a similar experience by visiting this historic site. Near Druids Temple, there are woodland walks and bike tracks for those wanting to adventure in the outdoors.
The structure is nearly 200 years old and you can find it near the village of Ilton, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, North Yorkshire.
Built in the 1800s, it offers visitors a unique blend of history and natural beauty in a remote woodland setting.
Visitors have praised the area for its blend of nature and history.
One visitor on Tripadvisor said: “Could spend the better part of a day here and not be bored especially in nice weather.
“Start by parking in the car park down at the tea rooms. Don some good footwear and walk back up through the car park, turn left up the slight hill and enter the woods.
“There is another car park there if you’re not planning for tea and cake after!
“Then hit the explore button! The ruins are great, all folly of course, but the kids (ages 4-11) all loved it.
“The surrounding woodland makes for a great adventure with scenic pictures to keep the photo minded very busy indeed! Lots of big rocks for climbing and the dogs loved it too.”
The person added that there’s plenty of places for an overnight stay and that if they made the trip again, they’d make the most of these.
Ripon, located closeby, is known for its pristine cathedral, rich history and impressive architecture.
While you’re there, you can take a walk along Ripon canal which is loved by locals and tourists alike. Visitors on Tripadvisor say the canal makes for a relaxing walk.
You should also make sure to see the cathedral which traces back to 672AD and is a popular tourist attraction in the city.
Its beautiful architecture and colourful stained glass windows won’t disappoint.
If you’re looking for a destination that won’t be crowded with tourists in autumn, this could be the perfect place for you.
