The magical little fairytale UK village that’s totally frozen in time | Travel News | Travel
Hidden in a quaint part of the UK lies a pretty village that is often overlooked by Brits planning a trip away. Surrounded by stunning countryside, a visit to this village is bound to provide a peaceful break.
Ironbridge, in Shropshire, has been listed as one of the UK’s best “fairytale” villages by Countryfile. It says: “The Iron Bridge, spanning the River Severn just south of Telford, appears frozen in time when covered in snow and ice. The town is a tribute to our industrial heritage. Visit the Ironbridge Gorge Museums for a lesson in local history, and a chance to escape from the cold.”
The village holds a significant place in history and is often referred to as the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution.
One must-see spot in the area is The Iron Bridge itself. You can take a walk across the first ever cast-iron bridge, built in 1779 across the River Severn.
This historical structure is a fascinating place to visit. One person on Tripadvisor said: “We decided to take a stop here as I’ve been wanting to visit for a while.
“I wasn’t disappointed at all, as the bridge and views are beautiful. The village of Ironbridge itself is also very pretty and I would have liked to have spent more time here.”
Another penned: “The bridge was a milestone of the industrial revolution and looked superb in the sunlight. They’ve done a great job at restoring it.”
For history lovers, there’s a one-of-a-kind place you’ll want to look into.
Blists Hill Victorian Town allows you to step back in time to the year 1900 and experience life on the East Shropshire Coalfield at the dawn of the modern age.
You can meet the residents as they go about their daily lives, take a ride on the horse bus and exchange money in the bank to spend in Victorian shops.
When you’re ready for a break, tuck into a bag of fish and chips or visit one of its cafes.
If you’re looking for a place to enjoy a few days away, Ironbridge is a village you can’t miss out on.
