The Echo Dot is two-for-one in this Black Friday bundle from Amazon
Amazon’s Black Friday deals are well and truly in full swing, but not that you’d necessarily have noticed. The retail giant is not labelling any of its current offers with the famous ‘Black Friday’ moniker, but that’s essentially what the deals are for, given they now run all of November rather than just on one day.
One such eye-catching deal at Amazon is a bundle that saves you more than £65 and gets you not one but two Echo Dot smart speakers, along with a smart light bulb for just £63.98. It looks like the perfect way to set up a budding smart home, or indeed add to your current one.
Usually, just one Echo Dot sells for £54.99, so here you can pay less than a tenner more and get an extra Echo Dot and the Tapo smart light bulb.
That clever light can be programmed to change colour, turn on and off, come on at scheduled times, or dim down on a sliding scale, all controlled with the Tapo and Alex apps or with your voice, which is partly where the Echo Dots come in.
These popular smart speakers can be used to control lights and other smart home accessories simply by saying “Alexa, turn on the lights” and other commands. The included smart bulb will set you on your way.
But the Echo Dot can do much more than that. It’s a voice activated speaker, so you can ask Alexa for the time, weather, to play songs from your connected music app of choice (Amazon Music, Spotify, Apple Music and Deezer are all supported, as well as Audible and BBC Sounds), read you the news headlines, tell you a joke, or answer any number of other requests.
Plus with two of them, you can choose to put them in different rooms for access to Alexa around the house, or have them in the same room set up as a stereo pair for twice the sound. They can even be synced with a Fire TV Stick or Amazon Fire TV device to be used as TV speakers, making them doubly useful in the living room.
What’s more, if you have an Amazon-owned Eero Wi-Fi router, you can use the Dots as Wi-Fi extenders. They also have temperature sensors so you can check on the temperature of the room they are in and better manage your heating. Though small in size, the Dots are big on features.
While you don’t need to be an Amazon Prime subscriber to take advantage of this Echo Dot and smart bulb offer, Amazon is listing it as a ‘Limited time deal’, with no indication how long it will last. It’s very hard to predict if and when the products will go back to full price, so if you’ve been mulling a smart home upgrade like this, now could be the time to take the plunge.
Amazon is likely to make more discounts on other items up to and after November 28, which is actual Black Friday, including on many of its other Echo, Kindle and Fire branded devices.
