The bargain European city where you can get a 3 course meal for £12 | Europe | Travel

As the cost of living continues to rise, those hoping to book a summer getaway will likely be looking for some budget-friendly options.

One bargain destination is the Bosnian capital of Sarajevo, known as the ‘Jerusalem of Europe’, which is perfect for almost all holiday-types, with the exception of a beach getaway seeing as the nearest coach is 76 miles away.

Revealing just how low-cost this destination is, the experts at eurochange have highlighted that for a July holiday you should expect to pay £89 per person for a return flight from London Stanstead.

There’s also plenty of savings to make once you’ve landed, with a three-course meal for one person setting you back just £12.69, and a pint of beer costing as little as £1.69.

Recommending Sarajevo has a bargain destination for a summer holiday, Laura Evans-Fisk, head of digital engagement at eurochange, says: “Saravejo is known as the ‘Jerusalem of Europe’, and has one of the most diverse cultures on the continent, making it one of the most intriguing cities you can visit.

“It is one of the only places where you can visit a Mosque, a Catholic church, an Eastern Orthodox church and a synagogue in one place. Tucked inside a long, thin valley and surrounded by forested mountains, the city is a picture-perfect backdrop.

“Its broad mix of cultural influences means its architecture is also absolutely beautiful, and its restaurant scene is an eclectic mix of Turkish and Bosnian-inspired offerings. And, with prices averaging at just £10 per person for a three-course meal, your money really does go far here.”

Highlights of the city include the Latin Bridge, where Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated in 1914, the historical Bascarsija neighbourhood and bazaar, the Sarajevo War Tunnel, and the History Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

And it’s not just Bosnia and Herzegovina that offers budget-friendly summer holidays, with eurochange’s experts also recommending Albania’s Tirana, where a three-course meal costs just £20.87 and a pint of beer is just £2.09.

Another recommendation from the travel pros is Kotor, Montenegro, which they highlight as a less-crowded and cheaper alternative to Croatia offering similar quaint towns, gorgeous beaches and a stunning coastline all for 20-30 percent less.
