Some travel experts even advise booking trips at the last minute for fantastic deals, while going for lesser-known destinations can also be a budget-friendly option, with flights to some cities available for as little as £17. If you’ve put off booking a holiday this year, that doesn’t mean it’s too late to sneak in a few days away. Travel experts at KAYAK have revealed the three cheapest cities to head to this month.
In fact, June is an ideal time to book a holiday as it’s just ahead of the peak travelling season when UK schools break up for holidays.
The travel search engine website has shared the best travel deals for June, including the cheapest cities to fly to for a last-minute holiday. If you find you’ve got a weekend free before the end of the month, it could be your last chance to get away before the prices hike back up.
According to their Summer Savings 2025 report, June is one of the best times for travellers to bag an affordable holiday before the busy peak season. Getting away before the summer holidays also means avoiding busy airports and long queues.
Just three hours from the UK, both Sofia in Bulgaria and Marrakech in Morocco made it onto the list, with flights to Sofia currently 55 percent cheaper than average.
Sofia
One of Europe’s oldest cities, Sofia is a walkable destination that doubles up as an ideal break for budget travellers, with plenty of relaxed cafes and bars to wind down in.
Marrakech
Return flights from London and Manchester to Marrakech are around £112 per person this month too, and the Moroccan city is home to sprawling souks selling local spices, traditional ceramics and clothing.
But it’s not just shopping on the cards, a trip to Marrakech even comes with the chance to gaze over the Atlas Mountains, or if you fancy something more relaxing, you can indulge in a hammam instead. The best part about going away in June is the weather, with Marrakech seeing an average of 35ºC this month.
Budapest
If you’re slightly pressed for time, but still fancy a break, another option is just two hours away from the UK. Known as the City of Baths thanks to its numerous thermal springs and bathhouses, Budapest is also home to the Danube River, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
