“History repeats itself” is a common phrase for a reason – yet many people forget or disregard the lessons learnt over time.

With global tensions rising, many Brits have been questioning how the UK would fare in a World War Three scenario.

The topic has sparked discussion on social media, with TikTok user @factosaurus_rex sharing their thoughts.

While some agreed with their views, others argued that modern technology would create a very different kind of warfare.

The video, which has racked up more than 170,000 views, begins: “Did you know why invading this country in Europe is nearly impossible? This is the United Kingdom, and history proves attacking it is a gamble most empires lose.”

It goes on to explain that the UK’s geographical position acts as protection, describing it as an “island fortress”.

Unlike countries with land borders, armies cannot simply cross into the UK undetected, as they would need to arrive by sea or air.

The video claims the UK has “strong” defences in place, including constant surveillance of its coastline and airspace.

It adds: “Invading the United Kingdom doesn’t just mean fighting soldiers – you would be fighting the sea, the skies, the terrain and a nation that has spent centuries preparing for invasion.”

However, commenters were quick to point out that no country can fully defend against unexpected nuclear strikes, and that cyber attacks pose a very different type of threat.

One user wrote: “I am from the UK but I have to say this doesn’t stop missiles, only invasions – which practically never happen any more as we are switching to intercontinental war. It won’t stop nukes, missiles and other weapons.”

Another said: “They better not touch my WiFi.”

Sharing their own thoughts on the UK’s military history and current global events, another user said: “There’s a reason why the UK was one of the strongest empires for hundreds of years – because we are a tiny little island, so it’s easy to defend.

“We trained the majority of armies around the world and we hold over 200 nuclear weapons. We also have the best navy in the world, so there’s nothing to worry about.”

Security has been a hot topic of debate as WW3 fears continue to rise. A poll showed nearly half of Brits oppose Donald Trump‘s strikes on Iran, while fewer than three in 10 are in favour.

A snap poll by YouGov found 49% were against the US President’s actions, with 28% backing him. It also showed 50% of voters oppose the US using RAF bases to launch attacks on Iran, even if bombings are limited to missile sites.

Just 32% supported allowing the US military to use British bases. The poll of 4,132 adults also found that 45% believe the UK should neither praise nor condemn the US for the Iran attacks.
