Tucked away amongst some of the Lake District‘s most stunning peaks lies a collection of fairy pools accessible via a 40-minute hike.
Cumbria‘s Lake District stands as England’s largest National Park, brimming with charming villages, captivating landscapes and unspoilt nature. Its peaceful atmosphere and natural splendour make it amongst the most sought-after staycation destinations across the UK.
The region particularly attracts walkers, hikers and paddle boarders, who relish the opportunity to pursue their passions against a backdrop of spectacular scenery.
Hiking enthusiast Sam Culley, who boasts nearly 300,000 TikTok followers, has highlighted what he calls an “absolutely incredible” brief walk near Wasdale, featuring numerous Fairy Pools.
These fairy pools comprise a sequence of pristine natural pools and cascading waterfalls, characteristically chilly as they’re supplied by mountain streams. In a video posted on the social media platform, Sam documented his hiking route to this magnificent spot, covering just under 1.8 miles.

Sam explained: “In the Lake District, nestled between some of England’s highest mountains, is a set of fairy pools which are absolutely incredible. This short, fairly easy, but insanely beautiful hike begins in an area of the Lake District called Wasdale.
“I spent the night before at the National Trust campsite and then the route led me along the river towards Wasdale Head. If you’ve never been here before, this place will take your breath away, honestly.
“You’ll come across the pub, the outdoor shop and there are toilets and stuff here, and just to the right of the shop is a path that we’re going to take. The reason we’re going this way is because you’ll actually get to see England’s smallest parish church – and it’s definitely worth having a little look inside as you go by.
“After the church, we’re going to head to the left, This is where you’ll be walking down through the valley with giant mountains either side, Great Gable on the left and Scarfell Pike in the background on the right.
“Follow the sign that says PATH. The route will take you along a gravel path with a very steady incline and this one is genuinely pretty easy going.”
Sam detailed how the route would then lead you over a footbridge where the scenery would become “better and better”. Following a short distance further, walkers will then discover the first of the fairy ponds.
He added: “From here they just get better and better. Turquoise waters and mountains in the background. You’ll find the best one a bit further up, just watch out because it’s a bit bog-tastic on the way there, and if you want to get down to it, it’s a slight scramble.
“I can’t think of a better place to sit and relax. Remember to always look after these places, leave no trace.”
Viewers responded to the video sharing their experiences of completing the walk. One person said: “We enjoyed this and went in for a very quick dip as it was April.”
Another individual remarked: “Chilly but divine to swim in.”
