Spain’s beautiful region once a hidden gem now hitting tourism records | Travel News | Travel
Last year, Spain welcomed 94 million visitors from across the globe which made it the world’s second most visited country.
Spain’s tourism numbers have been absolutely booming as the years have gone on, and it seems that not only are major destinations benefitting from it but also the regions that might not be as well known.
Aragon is one of them. The northwestern region nestled between Catalunya, Navarra, and Valencia has seen a major increase in the number of visitors.
Last year, Aragon broke its tourism record, welcoming over four million visitors, an increase of 180,000 compared to the previous record in 2023.
However, Aragon’s tourism chiefs are not stopping there; they plan to increase the number even more.
International tourism saw a particularly strong surge, with foreign visitors increasing by nearly 12% to reach 911,000, reports the Olive Press.
UK holidaymakers along with tourists from France, Italy, Germany and Portugal, make up most of the international traellers that visit the area. With it growing in popularity, tourism chiefs are setting on attracting visitors from other European countries and Latin America.
Another goal is to extend the tourism season throughout the whole year. Tourism Minister Manuel Blasco has highlighted the importance of year-round stability for both businesses and workers in the sector.
Aragon boasts of beautiful attractions to visit including monasteries, castles and various examples of Mudejar architecture that have been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The region also features the Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park – a natural paradise consiting of four valleys, this enchanting landscape is home meadows, huge forests, gorges, glaciers and snow, waiting to be explored by visitors.
The Pyrenean area is also a notable spot to visit in the region, home to some of Europe’s highest mountains, with over 180 reaching more than 3,000 metres high.
Aragon is also known for being extremely safe, one of the significant factors that draws people to the region. Tourism officials plan to continue promoting Aragon’s natural landscapes, monuments, and historical sites to draw in more international visitors.
