Spain’s beautiful little island with way less tourists than Tenerife or Ibiza | Travel News | Travel

Spain is a destination tourists can’t get enough of but with its ever-growing popularity, you might be looking for a quiet spot. Tenerife and Ibiza are loved by Brits but there’s one place you should add to your list instead.

Cabrera, which is close to Majorca, is located in the Balearic Islands. The Cabrera Archipelago Maritime-Terrestrial National Park is a chain of 19 small islands. It features unspoiled beauty with protected areas, crystal-clear waters and even rare wildlife. While you cannot stay in the area itself, due to it being protected, you can visit for a day trip from neighbouring areas.

Palma Weekly says: “It’s one of Spain’s best-preserved marine environments and it’s a dream day trip for nature lovers, divers, and anyone looking for unspoiled beauty.”

One person who visited on Tripadvisor said: “Marvellous day out with stunning beaches and amazing landscape.

“On the boat trip from Colonia de Sant Jordi you get around 4-5 hours free time in Cabrera.

“Don’t miss the views from the castle, but otherwise just head to the beaches, which are the highlight of Cabrera.

“The views from anywhere on the island are just stunning and the stop at the Blue Cave on the boat trip on the way back to Mallorca is wonderful.”

Another person penned: “This uninhabited island is a home for a large number of endemic species. Due to the fact this place is a National Park it is not possible to stay there overnight.

“However, there is an option to book a one day trip to the island. I would highly recommend a visit there, because this place is unspoiled beauty.”

In the early 19th century, Cabrera became infamous as a prisoner-of-war camp during the Peninsular War. In 1991, the entire archipelago was declared as a national park to protect its unique biodiversity on land and underwater.

To visit, you’ll need to stay in Majorca and take a boat trip over to the island. The nearest port, and the one from which most boats depart, is Colonia de Sant Jordi.

If you’re looking for a peaceful destination to visit, this is a place you simply must consider.
