Sky customers to get new streaming service at no extra cost on this exact date
The UK is getting yet another streaming service for TV fans to consider subscribing to, but some lucky people won’t have to pay a penny extra to start enjoying the new service from the day it launches.
Warner Bros. Discovery has announced that HBO Max, its streaming service, will be available in the UK from March 26, 2026, bringing series such as The Pitt, Lanterns, Euphoria and the long-awaited Harry Potter TV series to screens on these shores.
Classic HBO and Warner Bros. TV shows will also be available, including Succession, Friends, The Sopranos, Game of Thrones and The Wire, with the latest blockbusters such as One Battle After Another and Sinners also set to be included.
Warner Bros. Discovery said in its announcement that prices for the streaming service start from £4.99 per month, a price that undercuts Netflix and Disney+’s cheapest tiers by £1.
There is also a £5.99 tier with ads, with the cheapest ad-free tier costing £9.99, plus a premium £14.99 option. The priciest £30.99 package comes bundled with TNT Sports.
If you don’t want to spend even more each month on a new subscription, you won’t have to if you are already a Sky subscriber. Sky customers are set to get access to HBO content through their current subscriptions thanks to a deal struck way back in 2024.
“After Max launch, the new deal means Sky and NOW customers benefit from more content at no extra cost through bundled access to the streaming service that will exclusively feature new HBO Original and Max Original shows and more,” Sky said earlier.
“And the existing franchises and their future series will continue on Sky Atlantic for Sky customers.”
Sky customers will get access to HBO shows via HBO Max from March 26 when HBO Max launches officially in the UK. Given HBO content is already available you might not see much of a change on your service – but rest assured, you are getting access at no extra cost to the HBO Max service that people who don’t have Sky will have to pay for to access.
Anyone with Sky Stream, Sky Glass with Sky Ultimate TV, and Sky Q will get HBO Max Basic with Ads added to their subscription (worth £4.99 per month).
Current HBO shows and any future series will air on Sky Atlantic for those Sky customers, who will find HBO Max movies over on Sky Cinema, the latter of which requires an additional subscription cost for most Sky customers.
So, it will depend how much access you get to HBO Max shows and films depending on your Sky subscription, but either way on March 26 you’ll be getting access at no extra cost.
Virgin Media TV subscribers meanwhile will get access automatically, though they will be able to subscribe to HBO via the app on Virgin TV360 and Stream boxes.
