Sky announces surprise comeback of iconic channel returning to TVs this month

Sky has announced Sky One channel is coming back to UK TV screens, in a surprise return for a brand that was killed off in 2021.

Sky One first appeared in 1989, becoming Sky’s flagship broadcast channel in the UK for decades, bringing iconic shows such as The Simpsons, Prison Break, The X-Files and House to British living rooms, as well as hosting original programming including An Idiot Abroad.

Sky One will officially relaunch as channel 106 for Sky Ultimate TV, Sky Signature and Sky + customers on Tuesday February 24, 2026. Sky said it would offer “showstopping new TV alongside much-loved favourites”.

“Sky One will become the home of Sky’s unmissable comedy and entertainment programmes, including new shows The Dyers’ Caravan Park and Gemma Collins: Four Weddings and a Baby, as well as fan favourites Rob & Romesh Vs.., The Paper and Ted,” Sky said in a press release.

The newly resurrected channel is also set to become the home of Saturday Night Live UK, this isle’s attempt to mirror the zeitgeist-defining, decades long success of America’s Saturday Night Live, known colloquially as SNL. The format will closely resemble the US show, with a weekly celebrity host presenting satirical sketches from a team of comedians, plus live music guests.

Sky said Sky One will replace outgoing channels Sky Showcase and Sky Max. Content previously hosted on these channels will still be available on Sky One or on demand.

“Our goal is to make it easier than ever for Sky TV customers to find and enjoy the shows they love,” said Carli Kerr, MD of Sky TV & NOW. “Building on the iconic heritage of Sky One, the channel will be a one-of-a-kind destination that’s big, bold and bursting with energy”.

The return of Sky One means there will be a channel shuffle happening for Sky Q, Sky Glass and Sky Stream customers. If you are a customer of these services, head to your channel guide to find the new channel numbers for Sky Comedy, Sky Documentaries, Sky Crime, Sky Arts, Challenge and Sky Sci-Fi

Sky is also set to hold a major event later this month. In an invitation shared with Express.co.uk, Sky said: “Big things are coming to Sky TV. Join us to find out more.”
