Two tourists have discovered an idyllic spot in the Canary Islands that has average highs of 21C in February. YouTubers Simon and Elaine Gill escaped the UK weather for seven days of sunshine in the popular hotspot Fuerteventura and were not disappointed.

As part of their itinerary, the duo took a trip to Lobos Island (Islote de Lobos), often dubbed the “secret” Canary Island, and documented what it had to offer.

Just off the coast of Fuerteventura, the area is a car-free haven featuring stunning beaches, sparkling waters, and a relaxed atmosphere away from the hustle and bustle.

And while some islands can be hard to reach, getting to Lobos is just a short 15-minute ferry ride from Corralejo, in northern Fuerteventura.

Taking in their surroundings, the pair began with a hike to the highest peak, followed by a visit to the lighthouse.

“Lobos also has a natural rock pool and a beach,” Simon pointed out while filming.

“We strongly recommend a boat trip to this beautiful island.”

There are no overnight stays on the island, however round-trip prices from Corralejo are around €15–€18 (£13–£16) per adult, with children usually cheaper.

And while Corralejo.info states that it is mandatory to obtain a free permit, known as the Lobos Pass, the couple were stunned to realise this wasn’t the case.

“It’s 30 euros in total to get us there and back,” he said on their YouTube channel, Unowho Travels.

“Since we’ve arrived here, we thought we needed a Lobos pass, but the people at the kiosk said this time of year in March, you do not need a pass.

“Apparently, you only need a pass to go to Lobos Island in the summer.

“But, if you watch all the videos about going to Lobos Island, it will say you need a pass.”

According to the website, this pass allows access to the island for up to four hours and ensures that the number of visitors is limited to protect the local flora and fauna.

“If you book an authorized ferry that departs from the port of Corralejo to Lobos Island, you do not need to apply for the Lobos pass separately.

“Transport companies take care of the authorization for their passengers themselves, making it even easier to organize your visit.”

Lobos Island isn’t the only hotspot Fuerteventura has to offer. As part of their itinerary, the tourists also explored Playa De La Barca, a beach they described as “paradise”.

With calm, clear waters lapping the shore, Simon and Elaine took great pleasure in relaxing while watching others windsurf.

On a more spontaneous day that followed, the pair put on their hiking boots to take in the breathtaking views from the island’s highest peak, Pico De La Zarza.

Additionally, they visited Morro Jable, a family-friendly, charming town located on the southern tip of Fuerteventura, the second-largest Canary Island.

Summarising their trip, Simon told us: “Fuerteventura is probably our favourite of the Canary Islands, and having visited twice already, we’re heading back again next month.

“For us, it’s one of those rare places that really does have something for everyone. Families will love the long, safe beaches in resorts like Caleta de Fuste, Costa Calma and Morro Jable, while Corralejo offers great hotels, restaurants and the famous sand dunes nearby.

“And if you enjoy a bit of adventure, there’s Lobos Island to explore, volcanic hikes across the island, and even the spectacular walk from Morro Jable through the valley to Cofete – which is easily one of the most beautiful beaches we’ve ever seen.”
