Scott McTominay to Man Utd return details as transfer announced | Football | Sport
Major changes are on the horizon at Manchester United as we head into 2026. Ruben Amorim, who has been in charge for over a year, has led his team to a series of impressive performances this season. The summer transfer window saw an influx of new talent, with the likes of Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko and Bryan Mbeumo joining the Red Devils.
And it appears that the January transfer window will be just as busy. Joshua Zirkzee, Kobbie Mainoo, and Casemiro have all been rumoured to be on their way out of Old Trafford, with potential deals expected in the coming weeks. As we approach the new year, here’s an in-depth look at the latest news from Old Trafford…
McTominay return details emerge
According to CaughtOffside, the Red Devils are interested in bringing Scott McTominay back to Old Trafford.
The midfielder, currently playing for Napoli, left United last summer and has since flourished in Italy, playing alongside Rasmus Hojlund.
McTominay played a key role in helping Antonio Conte’s side clinch the Serie A title last season and has established himself as one of Europe’s top midfielders.
While Napoli would undoubtedly prefer to keep McTominay, they are reportedly open to offers in the region of £60million.
His performances for Napoli have not only been outstanding, but he was also named Serie A Player of the Year for his pivotal role in their championship-winning season.
With the potential departures of Casemiro, Kobbie Mainoo and possibly Bruno Fernandes in 2026, bringing McTominay back into the fold would be a savvy move.
Transfer confirmed
United have officially announced the signing of Lea Schuller from Bayern Munich.
The prolific striker has penned a contract until summer 2029 and will officially join the Red Devils on January 1.
With over 100 goals for the German giants and 54 international goals in 82 appearances, she brings a wealth of experience to the squad.
Matt Johnson, director of women’s football at Manchester United, expressed his delight: “Lea’s goalscoring record is phenomenal, her style of play will give our attack an exciting new dimension. We are delighted to add a player of her pedigree to the group.
“Lea’s winning mentality and experience will really help our young and ambitious team as we continue to grow together and compete across domestic and European competitions.”
Schuller herself was equally enthusiastic about the move, stating: “From the first conversations that I had with Marc and the club, the ambitions of everyone here were very clear. I still have so much that I want to achieve in my career, and I know that Manchester United is the perfect club to join.
“I feel that the team’s style of football will really suit my game, I hope my qualities and experience can help us to achieve our aims both in England and in the Champions League.”
