San Pedro del Pinatar horror Spain bar explosion sees around 12 people injured | World | News

There has been an explosion at a bar in Spain – causing serious injury to some.

Emergency services are treating a dozen people injured at the bar in Lo Pagán area of San Pedro del Pinatar.

The incident has also caused significant damage to the Casa Javi building, on Torres Fontes Street in the small seaside town.

Local police, ambulances and firefighters rushed to the scene at around 12:23pm local time following 25 calls from members of the public, according to reports from regional news outlet La7.

Around 12 people are thought to have been injured in the explosion, the cause of which has not been confirmed, with some left in a serious condition.

Authorities from the City Council and Civil Protection Service were dispatched to Lo Pagán early this afternoon alongside firefighters from the Murcia Region Fire and Rescue Consortium and ambulances and paramedics from 016.

Photos from the scene show the bar’s awning snapped into pieces, with nearby fruit and vegetable stalls collapsed onto the ground as passersby kneel down in a bid to clear up the mess.

Several police officers can also be seen speaking to stallholders amid the wreckage.

San Pedro del Pinatar, a small municipality in southeastern Spain, is known for its traditional fishing trade as well as its popular mud baths and salt flats.

While traditionally a quieter part of Spain in terms of tourist footfall than its northeastern counterparts, Murcia has seen a spike in international visitors over the first few months of 2025.

Over 320,000 foreign holidaymakers visited the region between January and April, according to Euro Weekly News, marking almost a 20% increase from the same period last year.
