San Diego plane crash horror as six passengers missing and Coast Guard scrambled | World | News

Six people are missing after a small plane crashed into the Pacific Ocean. A seven-seater aircraft went down three miles west of Point Loma in San Diego. The 1970 Cessna 414 disappeared at around 12:45pm on Sunday after it left for Phoenix from San Diego Airport. A recovery mission from the Coast Guard found a debris field and an oil slick 200 feet deep.

A helicopter, plane, cutter and two small boats continue to search the area as the passengers are yet to be found. According to the Aviation Safety Network, the pilot struggled to maintain altitude before falling 1,900 feet in 13 seconds. An investigation has now opened by the National Transportation Safety Board. One witness told local media that they saw the plane “come down at an angle”.

“The next time he came out of the clouds, he went straight into the water. But after I saw this splash, about six seconds later, it was dead silent,” Tyson Wislofsky told the news channel. “I knew that they went in the water, nose first, at high speed.”

The plane is reported to be owned by Optimal Health Systems, a vitamin and supplements company in Arizona. However, it is currently not known if any of the passengers onboard were members of staff.

Air and marine Coast Guard crews, air and marine Customs & Border Protection crews, San Diego Harbor Police boat crews and San Diego Lifeguard crews continue to scour the area for survivors.

CEO and President of Arizona’s Air and Space Museum, Jim Kidrick, told abc news that the airplane is a “twin-engine turbo” which can be flown “on one of the two engines”.

Mr Kidrick said the final moments in the air before the plane crashed will bring out the tuth being the cause of the incident.

“I think, something that will reveal more information certainly is, were there any radio communications, you know,” he said.
