Ryanair customer gets 20kg of hand luggage onto plane without paying | Travel News | Travel
A savvy traveller has become an internet sensation after revealing his genius hack to beat Ryanair’s notoriously strict baggage policy, which often sees holidaymakers forking out extra cash at the airport.
Rob Adcock from Stoke-on-Trent, who regularly shares budget-friendly travel tips and tricks with his followers, has gone viral with his latest ploy to avoid luggage fees on a £15 Ryanair flight – a move that could save passengers a small fortune given the airline’s steep charges for additional bags.
In a video that has now amassed over 2.4 million views from thrifty travellers, Rob demonstrates how he managed to pack 20kg of luggage without spending a penny more by using a vacuum pack machine to shrink his clothes down to size.
With a chuckle, he holds up his compressed clothing and quips: “Look at it”.
He then neatly tucks the vacuum-packed bundles into his backpack, which is permitted on board as a free carry-on item, and strolls onto the plane without having to pay any extra fees for hold luggage.
The clip is captioned “POV: You’ve vacuum packed all your suitcase to fit into a free Ryanair bag so you don’t have to pay to hold luggage”.
Not only is it a sneaky way to bypass additional costs, it also offers the added bonus of skipping the often lengthy wait at the baggage carousel upon arrival.
Plenty of travellers thought the cheeky trick was hilarious, with one dubbing it the “packing cube final boss”.
However, sceptics highlighted potential pitfalls. One confused commenter asked: “How are you supposed to vacuum it back up before going back on the plane when going home?”
A second chimed in with a chuckle: “Vaccum packed stuff is HEAVY,” accompanied by a pair of laughing emojis.
Meanwhile, a female traveller noted the downside that such a method would leave clothes “creased”. This is hardly ideal for anyone who wants to look smart on holiday.
What’s more, you do run the risk of being caught by Ryanair employees at the airport.
One TikTok user posted: “Literally saw someone get caught doing this in Budapest today. It didn’t end well.”
Ryanair enforces a 10kg limit on cabin baggage, and getting nabbed at the weighing scales could mean shelling out extra for your journey.
It’s a gamble that might not always pay off – but for this flyer, it was a triumph!
