Russia mocks Trump in cruel Christmas video celebrating ‘friends’ of Putin | World | News
Russian officials could not resist mocking Donald Trump in a cruel Christmas video, celebrating the Kremlin’s so-called friends around the world. The video was published by Russia’s Embassy in Kenya to its social media page and has become an instant hit.
The AI generated clip shows Santa delivering a big sack of presents to various heads of state. First in line is China’s all-powerful autocrat Xi Jinping, who opens his gift-wrapped box with barely concealed delight. Inside are symbols for the Chinese currency – the Yuan, and the Russian rouble.
China’s President hangs the two symbols on his Christmas Tree. At the same time a US dollar symbol falls from the tree, smashing into pieces.
The implication is obvious – Russian officials are hinting at the demise of the greenback as the international currency of choice for investors as US economic power declines around the world.
Trump has had a rocky relationship with his Chinese counterpart. Having introduced swingeing sanctions against Beijing, the US President later had to humiliatingly back down, after Xi threatened to ban all exports of rare earth minerals to America – a raw material essential in the manufacturing of weapons and many vital modern products.
Next in line is India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who finds a Russian fighter jet in his Christmas parcel.
Relations between New Delhi and Washington soured after Trump tried to take exclusive credit for negotiating a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, after clashes broke out in May.
Modi refused to give Trump his due credit and nominate him for a Nobel peace prize, in stark contrast to Pakistan. The US has since imposed 50% tariffs on Indian exports.
India has been one of the biggest consumers of Russian oil since the imposition of Western sanctions on Moscow, as well as spending over US$60 billion on Kremlin arms in the last 20 years.
Russia is currently hoping to sell SU-57E stealth fighters to New Delhi in the latest weapons deal between the two countries.
Then comes Trump’s turn – noticeably only third on the list. His present is just a framed photo of his meeting with Putin in Alaska – an event which helped end Putin’s international pariah status.
The peace meting ultimately proved fruitless, with Trump reportedly leaving early after growing frustrated with Putin’s lecture on Ukrainian history.
To rub insult into injury, the next world leader to get their present is Trump’s nemesis – Venezuela’s dictator Nicolas Maduro.
The US President has not ruled out regime change in Venezuela and has ordered his military to attack “drug” boats operating in the country’s coastal waters.
Maduro is given a huge DJ mixing desk and when he plays an already loaded CD, the words “not war, just peace forever, forever…” can be heard.
Trump has often portrayed himself as a man of peace who abhors war, yet has not been slow to use his military against both Iran and Venezuela.
Putin has vigorously and publicly backed Maduro since the outbreak of hostilities between the US and Venezuela.
Following a phone call between Putin and Maduro early December a Kremlin statement said: “Vladimir Putin expressed solidarity with the Venezuelan people and reaffirmed support for the Maduro government’s policies aimed at safeguarding national interests and sovereignty amid mounting external pressures.”
