The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have “not succeeded in the US” and are “walking disasters”, a leading royal expert has claimed, as a bombshell new book about the couple prepares to hit shelves.

Richard Fitzwilliams made the withering assessment to the Daily Express ahead of the release of Betrayal: Power, Deceit and the Fight for the Future of the Royal Family, royal author Tom Bower’s latest examination of the Sussexes, due out on March 26.

“Whether his quotes are exact and his descriptions accurate is arguable, but that he has targeted a couple who appear to be walking disasters is pretty clear,” Fitzwilliams said.

“They have not succeeded in the US, they have lost Spotify, Netflix is no longer backing As Ever. He has lost Sentebale, their Charity seems tiny and in 2024, was losing money.”

Fitzwilliams suggested the couple were fighting a losing battle to rehabilitate their image and commercial standing on both sides of the Atlantic.

Bower’s book describes a couple “fighting to preserve their royal titles and privileges” whose attempts to build a Sussex brand have “fuelled bitter hostility.”
