‘Real reason’ Meghan Markle was snubbed by Vogue revealed by royal expert | Royal | News
Meghan Markle appeared to have been snubbed by Vogue last year after failing to appear on a special issue of the fashion magazine.
The Duchess of Sussex, 43, previously appeared in the popular magazine in 2019 when she guest-edited its September issue, however was not invited to return back in March last year when a special edition was published to mark the then-editor-in-chief Edward Enninful’s final edition of British Vogue.
For the special occasion, 40 of 153 cover stars who had been on the cover of the magazine during his time in charge gathered together for a photoshoot set to be put on the front of the magazine.
Speaking to Express.co.uk last year, royal commentator and To Di For Daily podcast host Kinsey Schofield claimed the real reason for the duchess not being invited back for the special edition was because Meghan’s relationship with the team at the magazine had not been smooth-sailing.
The US-based royal commentator said: “It has been previously reported that Meghan clashed with the editorial team while guest-editing a special edition of British Vogue in 2019.”
She also alleged: “In one meeting, she made staff cringe by insisting: ‘I want to break the internet!’ which is a phrase coined by Team Kardashian in 2014. Meghan sure thought highly of herself!
“Staff at British Vogue were described as ‘silently exasperated’ while trying to follow Meghan’s direction.
“Her contributions were described as ‘superficial, lacking rhyme or reason’. And sources said that she was never asked to explain herself to ‘avoid confrontation’.
“Meanwhile, Meghan begged staff to build momentum by publicising her issue online in the weeks leading up to its launch. The British Vogue team felt like the most sophisticated route to go was surprise. Meghan disagreed and someone quietly leaked numerous stories about the issue to tabloids. Staff believe the leaker was a contact of Meghan’s.”
In the issue itself, published just months after Meghan Markle and Prince Harry welcomed their son Prince Archie into the world in 2019, Meghan wrote about the opportunity to guest-edit Vogue.
She wrote: “I was about five months pregnant when this process began, and by the time you hold this issue in your hands, my husband and I will be holding our three-month-old baby boy in ours.
“It’s a very special time for me personally, on so many levels; working with Edward and his team, both during my pregnancy and my maternity leave, has played no small part in that joy – it has been a privilege to be welcomed and supported by this amazing team.
“To Edward, thank you for entrusting me with this. I am deeply honoured.”
