Real reason King and Prince William did not attend Lionesses’ parade | Royal | News

According to Hello! Magazine, the event may have clashed with the royals’ schedules, as the King is likely still in Scotland after his trip to Caithness on Monday, while the Prince of Wales is thought to be on a summer break with his family.

It has been reported that there may be a reception in the autumn at either Buckingham Palace or Windsor Castle as such options are thought to be being explored by royal aides.

Royal editor Emily Nash said: “The Royal Family has shown plenty of support for the Lionesses over the years, with Prince William visiting their training ground and attending the final on Sunday. I’m sure that they will be out in force again once arrangements are made for a reception to celebrate them again in the autumn.”

On Monday, the Lionesses attended a reception at Downing Street hosted by Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner and sports minister Stephanie Peacock.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer offered “a huge, huge congratulations to you and to the whole team” as he spoke with Wiegman and some of the Lionesses via a video call from the garden of No 10.

The King also congratulated the European champions on Monday, saying in a statement posted on X: “You have shown through your example over past weeks that there are no setbacks so tough that defeat cannot be transformed into victory, even as the final whistle looms. Well done, Lionesses.”
