An inmate who allegedly killed and then began consuming his cellmate reportedly made a chilling four-word confession that has left Chile reeling.
Manuel Ignacio Fuentes, 21, who was imprisoned for aggravated robbery, had been sharing a cell with 26-year-old thief Felipe Sepulveda when the pair became embroiled in a violent confrontation at the beginning of February inside La Serena prison.
According to Diario El Dia, the incident first came to light at 9am on February 8th following a radio alert regarding a disturbance within the cell. Fuentes was initially arrested in 2022 for armed robbery before escaping from prison in 2023, only to be recaptured later that same year.
According to reports, during this violent encounter, Sepulveda was allegedly killed by Fuentes. When Fuentes was discovered, he was missing a hand, one of his eyes, and an ear.
He also reportedly bore bite marks on his neck. Official sources stated that Fuentes had claimed the two had become involved in a fight, reports El Heraldo. He said: “Late at night, this inmate came at me with a knife. I also had one and attacked him first before he could attack me, dodging the stab.

“I stabbed him in the neck and he started convulsing. That’s when I started checking his vital signs, specifically his neck and heart, and I realised he was dead. I’ll just say it was in self-defence.”
The statement went on to detail Fuentes’ reasoning behind his alleged decision to consume parts of his victim. He confessed: “I started to panic over what I had done and began to eat parts of his body.
“I took out one of his eyes and ate it, as well as a piece of his hand and his neck. After that, I ate one of his ears. After a while, I covered him up and fell asleep next to him.”
According to sources, the accused murderer later admitted to a security guard: “Boss, I killed him.”
Fuentes’ father has since spoken out about his son’s situation, asserting that his son requires psychiatric medication.
Speaking to Meganoticias, he stated: “He needed medication, he needed to see a specialist (…) He has a neuropsychiatric problem that is diagnosed and documented.”
Fuentes’ girlfriend, Ashely San Martin, has also reportedly observed a decline in her partner’s mental health.
In the wake of reports surrounding the alleged murder, Fuentes’ mother Paola Martinez has extended an apology on behalf of her son to the family of the victim.
Speaking to the Meganoticias website, she expressed: “I offer my sincerest apologies and ask for forgiveness for what happened. I know it’s unforgivable, but I know my son didn’t mean to do it, and there must be sufficient reasons, which will obviously have to be clarified.”
