Prince Harry’s response when King Charles ‘banned’ Meghan Markle from Balmoral | Royal | News

Prince Harry was reportedly left furious after King Charles told the duke not to bring Meghan Markle with him to see the late Queen on the day of her death.

In his 2023 memoir Spare, the prince – who had quit life as a senior royal over two years before – spoke about the tragic day his grandmother passed away on September 8, 2022.

While he himself was invited to Balmoral, where the late Queen was, to say goodbye, he was reportedly told by his father King Charles not to bring his wife Meghan with him, despite the fact they were already both in the UK.

In his memoir, Harry, 40, said: “He said I was welcome at Balmoral, but he didn’t want… her. He started to lay out his reason, which was nonsensical, and disrespectful, and I wasn’t having it.”

The duke said he felt furious and told his father: “Don’t ever speak about my wife that way.”

Talking about the rest of the conversation and his father’s reaction, Harry said: “He stammered, apologetic, saying he simply didn’t want a lot of people around. No other wives were coming, Kate wasn’t coming, he said, therefore Meg shouldn’t.”

According to Prince Harry, the duke also found it difficult getting to Balmoral that day and had little communication with other members of the Royal Family who were travelling up to see the late Queen.

This meant Harry had to find his own way up to Scotland and was too late to say goodbye.

He wrote: “When the plane started to descend I saw that my phone lit up. It was a message from Meg: ‘Call me when you get this.’ I looked at the BBC website. My grandmother had died. My father was King.”
