Taking centre stage for its winning combination of affordability, character, and historical significance is Portsmouth, with Aqua noting: “From the historic charm of the Spinnaker Tower to the vibrant waterfront at Gunwharf Quays, this coastal city offers plenty to see and do without breaking the bank.”

This southern coastal destination, celebrated for its naval heritage and attractive harbourfront, proudly ranks among the three most economical staycation locations across Britain.

According to the research data, visitors can secure overnight accommodation in Portsmouth from just £108, placing it marginally above Eastbourne at £112 per night, whilst trailing behind Blackpool’s bargain rate of £82.

However, cost alone doesn’t tell the full story, as Portsmouth’s enchanting historic quarters – particularly its charming Old Town featuring traditional cobbled pathways – are capturing growing interest from holidaymakers throughout the country.

One Tripadvisor reviewer highlighted the region’s charm, mentioning the opportunity for a “nice walk to do and view the old town” whilst commending its “very well maintained,” condition, which “gives an idea of what it was like.”
