Popular shoe shop that’s been trading for 9 years in UK city centre set to shut its doors | UK | News

A popular shoe shop that has traded for nearly a decade in Nottingham city centre is set to close its doors. Ecco, a Danish brand known for its shoes and leather accessories, will soon shut its branch on Bridlesmith Gate.

The shop has been based on the busy shopping street for at least nine years and is the company’s only store in the East Midlands. Signs advertising a closing down sale have now appeared in the windows of the store. The notices tell customers that “everything must go” as the business prepares to shut.

It is not yet clear why the shop is closing or when its final day of trading will be, but the Express has contacted the management for comment.

But while one business prepares to leave Nottingham city centre, others are continuing to open.

A new Indian street food café called Chaiiwala has recently opened inside the Victoria Centre shopping centre.

The café serves a range of Indian-inspired food and drinks, including desi breakfasts, wraps and rice bowls.

It is the third Chaiiwala location in Nottingham, joining existing branches in Hyson Green and on Castle Boulevard, where a drive-through recently opened.

The new café has around 45 seats and also features tables outside the unit as well as in the central walkway of the shopping centre.

Asam Masood, who manages Chaiiwala’s day-to-day operations in the East Midlands, said the new opening was an important step for the brand.

He said: “For the company it’s a great step having this here in the middle of Nottingham and it will definitely give the Chaiiwala brand more visibility across the city.

“Castle Boulevard is going really good. We are almost four months into trading and it’s settled down well. Ramadan is keeping us busy.”

The café is known for its karak chaii, a sweet and spiced milky tea made with flavours such as cinnamon, cardamom and nutmeg.

The menu also includes items such as samosa chaat, vada pav, Bombay toasties, naan wraps and rice bowls, along with desserts including doughnuts, milk cakes and ice cream.
