Popular American fast-food chain set to open store in UK city | UK | News

A popular fast food chain known for its burgers and shakes is opening a new store in the UK. Shake Shack, which has just 17 branches across the nation, is expanding its network.

The popular American burger chain is opening a new store early next year, giving more Brits the chance to taste some of its famous burgers. All guests will have the opportunity to try some of the brand’s favourite menu items, including the ShackBurger, Crinkle-Cut Fries, Flat-Top Dogs and hand-spun shakes.

The new restaurant will be located at Manchester’s Trafford Centre, which is managed by Pradera Lateral and welcomes 23 million visitors annually.

Kitty Vaughan, head of F&B and leisure leasing at Pradera Lateral, said: “Shake Shack choosing Trafford Centre for its first ever Northern flagship restaurant is a powerful endorsement of our position as a leading retail and leisure destination.

“We’re committed to bringing standout international brands to Trafford Centre, and we’re confident that Shake Shack will be a major draw for visitors and a brilliant addition to our evolving food and beverage offer.”

The restaurant is set to open in March 2026 and will be the first in the North of England.

Richard Franks, business director at Shake Shack UK, said: “Manchester’s a city that does things properly; it’s full of heart, graft and great taste.

“We’re so pumped to be growing Shake Shack across the UK, and to be opening our first Northern Shack at the Trafford Centre. We can’t wait to be a part of this city.”

In the build-up to the opening, a specially commissioned artist’s hoarding by local illustrator Jessica Lee will be displayed in December 2025.

Ms Lee’s playful and vibrant illustrations capture the energy, creativity, and multicultural spirit of Manchester, combining the city’s music culture with whimsical Shake Shack elements — a fun visual taste of what’s to come.

Shake Shack first opened in 2004 in New York City’s Madison Square Park. Since then, the company has expanded to over 640 locations, including over 400 in 34 U.S. States and the District of Columbia, and more than 230 international locations across London, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore, Mexico City, Istanbul, Dubai, Tokyo, Seoul and more.
