People say they’ll ‘never’ go on resort holiday after seeing ‘bizarre’ hotel guest | Travel News | Travel

People have been left gobsmacked by the behaviour of Brits abroad as sunbed wars continue to go to extreme levels. We’ve all experienced the struggle to find that ideal sunbed for relaxing on holiday. Many holiday-goers want loungers close to the pool or near a parasol, and positioned together so the family isn’t spread out and everyone can sit together. However, during busy periods, finding an unoccupied lounger can be a challenge – leading to the so-called ‘sunbed wars’ at numerous popular European holiday resorts and hotels.

Because of the competition when it comes to getting the best sun bed, at some hotels people have been seen queuing to get into pool areas ahead of their opening times – and then running to their desired spot to throw their towel down and mark their territory.

A hotel staff member was trampled at another resort in Tenerife as people rushed out at 6.30am as the pool opened. Clips have also been spotted of British tourists in Tenerife even sleeping on sun loungers overnight in a bid to secure the best spot at another Spanish hotel.

People cannot get over the sun bed wars spotted at Parque Santiago III in Las Americas, Tenerife, over this summer. The four-star hotel is popular with families and has a huge pool at the resort, as well as water slides.

A video shared on TikTok by Jeff Hunter shows the moment hotel guests sprint out to empty sun loungers as the pool opens – and one runs to the front, by the pool, and puts six towels down on six beds as fast as he can before grabbing a seventh sun bed and dragging it over.

The video has raked in over 20 million views and people have rushed to comment, with many saying that they would not enjoy this type of holiday.

“Just wouldn’t want to stay in a place like that to be honest,” said one.”Can’t think of anything worse,” noted another. Another insisted: “This is not a holiday.”

One individual commented and said: “Imagine you’ve met the partner of your dreams and they do this on your first holiday together.” Another wrote: “Imagine working the whole year to finally go on vacation, and this is it.”

“How sad is this,” commented one other. Another brutally put: “This is why I will never go to an all inclusive 4 star hotel. Tacky and low class.”

Another shared their experience of going to Tenerife. They said: “As an Aussie I travelled to Tenerife with my UK cousins! They woke me up at 7 or 8 and said go put the towels out. I was so hungover I thought what the f***?. Fair to say we fell out over this during our trip! I will never understand this pathetic behaviour and well.. yeah we still don’t talk but the mentality is bizarre.”

One other shared: “I hate this. currently in Menroca and there are so many sunbeds with NOBODY ON THEM! Just towels. empty for hours, this shouldn’t be allowed.”

Others said they can’t understand why people are so obsessed with their sun lounge space.

One travel lover pointed out: “I’ve been to Tenerife and I don’t understand people going there to stay in a hotel’s pool instead of going around the island and enjoying the different beaches.”

One questioned: “Is sitting next to a concrete pool of chlorine water for 12 hours really that great?”. “Why do you need to be so close to the pool I don’t get it?,” questioned another individual.”

One other said: “Book a quiet villa on the beach on some small Greek Island. Come and go as you please, eat at the local spots. Now that’s my idea of a holiday.”
