New sleeper train to stop at several city break hotspots across 6 European nations | World | News

A new sleeper train set to be launched in the coming weeks will stop at several popular European city break destinations across six countries. The new route from the Polish state rail operator PKP Intercity will take up to 16 hours, local reports say.

The EN Carpatia service will reportedly begin next month and make it easier for those wanting to explore the continent via rail. It will stop in several major cities and capitals across central and western Europe. The train will depart from Przemyśl, south-eastern Poland, at 5.51pm local time.

It will travel through different cities in southern Poland, including the popular destination of Krakow, before crossing into the Czech Republic.

When in the country, the carriages will detach and head to different destinations.

Some will travel into Germany via Austria or the Czech capital of Prague.

In Austria, the train will stop in the capital Vienna, as well as Linz and Salzburg, with Munich in the Bavaria region of southern Germany the final destination, reports Polish state broadcaster TVP.

The remaining carriages will carry on to Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, and Budapest, the capital of Hungary.

The train will be a EuroNight service, with seat reservations set to be mandatory and both sleeper and couchette carriages available.

A dining carriage is also expected but not confirmed.

The journey from Przemyśl to Munich is due to take around 16 and a half hours.

The travel time from Przemyśl to Bratislava is approximately 12 hours, while the journey from Przemyśl to Budapest is expected to take nearly 14 hours and 40 minutes, according to Nowiny 24.

Ticket prices for journeys to and from Munich or Vienna are not yet available.

Fares from Bratislava and Budapest to Przemyśl are currently available, with the return train designated as another night train.

A non-refundable ticket for a seat in second class from Bratislava costs £22.17, while from Budapest it is slightly dearer at £27.14.

Night-time quiet hours are in place on PKP Intercity sleeper and couchette carriages.

A staff member will also wake travellers up at an agreed time, no later than 30 minutes before their destination station.

During the summer, PKP Intercity launched a new seasonal sleeper train service connecting Warsaw to the city of Rijeka on Croatia’s stunning Adriatic coast.
