New Sky rival arrives next month that will let UK homes stream TV totally free

The streaming revolution shows no signs of slowing down. Sky has been leading the way thanks to launch of devices such as Sky Stream and Sky Glass which use a broadband connection to beam live and on-demand content into living rooms. Although Sky’s award-winning devices rule the roost, they aren’t alone. Freely was announced back in 2024 and offers the ability to stream shows, sports and movies for free.

It’s backed by the same team behind Freeview, and it’s just had another major boost. Until recently, those wanting to access this platform needed to buy a new TV with Freely built in.

A freely compatible Pleio puck was announced late last year, which added Freely to any TV. Now consumers are getting even more choice with Manhattan launching its first-ever Freely set-top box.

Manhattan has long made Freeview recorder boxes, but it’s now branching out with this latest release, switching to streaming instead.

The device, called the Aero 4K TV Streamer, will launch in February and offers access to 60 live TV channels and over 75,000 hours of on-demand content. Everything is whizzed into homes via Wi-Fi so there’s no need for an aerial or dish stuck to the chimney.

Aero also uses the award-winning TiVo OS – so on top of Freely there’s Netflix, Disney+ and Prime Video, as well as YouTube and much more.

There’s also TiVo+, which adds an additional 400 completely free streaming channels and a huge library of free on-demand movies and shows.

As the name suggests, owners will get access to stunning 4K picture quality along with other features such as voice search. The only thing it won’t let you do is record shows onto a hard disk.

Speaking about the new box, Alex Arbab-Zadeh, COO for Manhattan said: “Freely is a brilliant new platform that delivers Great British Telly over broadband with no monthly bills – but there are lots of TVs out there that don’t have it built in. Aero fixes that. Just connect to Wi-Fi and you’ve got live TV, catch-up and all your favourite streaming apps – a simple, affordable way to upgrade any TV without having to replace it.”

The Manhattan Aero 4K TV Streamer with Freely will be available for £69.99 from Currys, John Lewis, Amazon and more in February 2026.
